When the heart speaks❤️ I clearly remember When the heart speaks❤️
I clearly remember my very first riding lesson. The horse I was going to ride, Robin – maybe you've heard me mention him – was beautiful. I fell for him instantly. But during that first meeting, and the ones after, something puzzled me: I couldn’t feel him.
I was used to being around dogs and always felt a connection to animals. But not with Robin. Not at first.
We’re all capable of sensing others – humans and animals alike. It's about energy. That invisible communication between living beings that starts in the heart.
Research from the HeartMath Institute shows that the heart generates the most powerful electromagnetic field in the body. This field can be measured several feet away and carries information about our emotional state. When we are in heart coherence, our heart sends a more harmonious signal that can influence those around us.
So the heart doesn't just pump blood. It communicates. And when we're present and balanced, that heart field can create safety and connection – even with horses.

Robin hadn’t felt seen or heard for years. Most of his social contact was with humans. His only social contact with horses was through bars in the stable wall, an occasional turnout with one horse in the arena and a month will all school horses in a summer pasture. Only brief moments of freedom. He had shut down. That’s why I couldn’t feel him.
But that experience changed everything. It sparked my curiosity and passion for understanding horses. When the riding school let me buy him, my learning began. Robin taught me to feel horses. Feel their energy.
His way was to run – to run from his past. And he ran fast! I learned to sense when the energy got too big to hold. It saved me from many wild rides.
I’m deeply grateful for all he taught me. He let me into his heart – and taught me a way to communicate with horses, which I now pass on to others.
With love,

When Treats Reward the Wrong Behavior🫣 The oth When Treats Reward the Wrong Behavior🫣

The other day, I was called out to a young horse with handling issues. The owner had already come a long way in just a few months, but challenges remained.

It’s not unusual for horses to be unsettled after a move — some take 6–12 months to truly relax. But in this case, it wasn’t just the relocation. The horse had clearly learned some unhelpful things, both through management and training. Treats had been used constantly at former owners place — not to reward desired behavior, but simply all the time, even during unwanted behavior.

So the horse had been rewarded for taking charge and reacting strongly. That made it quick to explode under even small amounts of pressure. Even though things had improved before my visit, it was still reactive. We worked on a different way of handling — and already that day, we saw a shift.

While I was there, someone from the stable asked for advice. She’d gotten scared when the young horse acted aggressively while she tried to fetch her own horse from the field — even kicking out at her. And I completely understand her fear.

But there’s no quick fix. I could suggest a mindset shift (young horses don’t respond well to fear or tension) and a different way of leading. But beyond that, it’s about training — retraining, really, after a pattern of unfortunate learning.

We’re working with living beings. Flight animals with instincts shaped over thousands of years. Change takes time and patience. I wish I could offer instant solutions, but it doesn’t work like that. And even with progress, old patterns will show up — especially when reactive behavior has been rewarded with treats.

The next step is to keep practicing the new approach — and introduce learning through play. In small doses, so the horse stays calm. It needs to feel that being relaxed is the best thing in the world.

I also spoke with the stable owner about what had happened and what’s next. It’s vital that everyone around the horse understands what’s going on. That’s how real change happens.

With love,
Camilla

Eight months ago – almost to the day – a horse Eight months ago – almost to the day – a horse owner reached out to me and asked if I could come for a visit. Her horse, a 15-year-old gelding she had known since he was very young, had suddenly started refusing touch on one of his shoulders. As in a big NO THANK YOU! And since he was normally a cuddly boy who loved being groomed by his owner, alarm bells naturally started ringing.

A few days later, when I visited them, she showed me his reaction – and he was really upset. He received one bodywork session, during which he released a lot of tension. Now, I’m usually the one saying there are no quick fixes – but after just that one session, his owner was able to groom and cuddle his shoulder again 👏 It was truly wonderful to witness the huge relief from both horse and owner 😍

As I found a few other issues, I came back – and since then, I’ve been visiting them once a month, so his body could get the help and maintenance bodywork he needed. When you visit a horse and its human family regularly like that, a bond forms. And very often, a deep trust and a close connection. Both between the horse and me – and between the horse’s humans and me. I sort of follow them through “thick and thin.”

That’s also why it hurts when I get the message that one of my four-legged clients is no longer here. And dear Speedy, whom I wrote about above, sadly had to cross the rainbow bridge suddenly and far too soon the other day 💔 It’s always hard – but I know this goodbye is especially painful for his humans.

I am so grateful that I got to know him and his wonderful humans. And with their kind permission, I’m sharing his photo here, so we can all send him off with love.
Run free, Speedy. Thank you for everything 🕊🐎❤️

With love,
Camilla

When frustration becomes a roadblock 🙄 Life wit When frustration becomes a roadblock 🙄
Life with horses brings highs and lows. There are ’fabulous experiences, deep connection and ongoing development in the journey. But sometimes, things don’t go as planned. Some days, we simply lack energy, and it’s hard to stay focused or set the right intention. Other times, unexpected situations arise and trigger frustration.
Frustration is powerful. It clouds our thoughts, disconnects us from our bodies, and affects our relationships – including the one with our horse. We lose focus, overthink, get impulsive, and start doubting ourselves. Our muscles tense, breath shortens, and we feel drained.

When frustration takes over, we often react before we reflect. We might become irritable or shut down, and that tension is mirrored right back to us by our horses.
This is where shifting your state of mind becomes essential. It’s like a mental reset that helps us return to clarity. One of my go-to tools is simply sitting down somewhere quiet and breathing deeply for five minutes. Inhale through your nose while counting to four. Pause. Exhale through your nose while counting to eight. Repeat. Just that – again and again. After a few minutes, the nervous system starts to settle. If you need a deeper reset, you can try the focus exercise – a method I’ve shared a few times. Creating a shift in your state of mind is one of the most valuable things I’ve learned from my mentor Klaus Veile, and I’m so grateful to have these tools with me. They make a world of difference when frustration knocks – and it will, now and then. I highly recommend them.

Wishing you a peaceful Sunday and Easter.

With love,
Camilla 💖

Because of a missing shoe, we haven’t done any t Because of a missing shoe, we haven’t done any training this week. So I figured we might as well spend some time grazing so his stomach could get used to grass.
Grass ranks high on his list of priorities, and over time he’s become very skilled at spinning around and diving his head down. But instead of constantly fighting a tough battle over the grass, I decided to choose the grass — and train letting go.

There’s a lot of grass along the path by our paddocks, so it was the perfect place to practice. I decided we would walk all the way to the end of the path, and the whole way I stayed in contact with him, focusing on his eyes and telling him we were going all the way to the end. He thought it was a bit hard, and that’s logical seen from the horse’s perspective: “There’s grass right here, why would we walk away from it?” But he did it. We reached the end of the path, and he was allowed to graze.
After fifteen minutes of grazing came the hard part: getting his head up and walking back 😅I had trained him ages ago to lift his head on a cue, but it had been so long that I wasn’t sure if he’d still respond. But he did.I calmly told him we were done for today — and that we’d do it again the next day. On the way back, we did a few focus exercises, and he got some treats along the way. He “asked” a few times if we could stay a bit longer… but without putting his head down.
The next day, we did it all again. And we walked back without using any treats until we were completely away from the grass 🥳
On the third day, I chose a different spot, but used the same approach. When it was time to return from the grass, it was as if he said, “Watch me!,” because as soon as I asked him to lift his head, he walked to the end of the path, stopped, and looked me deep in the eyes. “See?!”. That look went straight to my heart! 🥰
For a horse where food — and especially grass — is vital and a very “here and now” kind of thing, this isn’t just a small thing. It’s big. A sign of trust. I’m so grateful to have built a bond with Braveheart that means he feels listened to and that he listens to me too.
With love,Camilla

🌼 When I went out to Braveheart and Zizi in the 🌼 When I went out to Braveheart and Zizi in the paddock the other day, they were both dozing in the sun. Everything was quiet – except for the birdsong. I stepped quietly onto the field and sat down. Closed my eyes. Listened. Sensed my horses. And felt deeply grateful to have them in my life.

That happened just 20 minutes after someone asked me:
"Is it really okay for you to have horses like that? I mean, not being able to ride them?”
I had just shared what life with my horses currently looks like.
Braveheart is undergoing strength and cardio rehab. With Zizi I train endurance, while I help her rediscover joy in training and riding.
Both have muscle disorders. No two days are the same. Some days we can do a lot, other days almost nothing.

So, is it okay for me?
Yes!

Several people have said, “That’s an expensive hobby if you can’t ride.” But for me, riding isn’t the most important part. It’s the relationship. Our shared experiences. Learning from the horses – about them, about life and about myself.
I know for some people, having a horse you can’t ride is unthinkable. And yes, it would be lovely to saddle up and go for a ride 4–5 times a week – but that’s simply not our reality.
I don’t dwell on it. I work with what we’ve got. We’re making progress, and I truly believe things will improve as the horses gain more strength.
I’d rather train too little than push them too far. It means slower progress, but that’s a conscious choice – because I’ve seen how overtraining often leads to one step forward and two steps back.
We have a vet involved regularly, an independent nutritionist with extensive knowledge of muscle disorders, a patient farrier (standing on three legs for long isn’t easy), a great equine dentist (because it’s all connected) – and many other skilled professionals supporting us. And I contribute with bodywork and laser therapy.
This is my horse life.
I’m grateful for my two lovely horses, who I learn from and grow with.
And as long as Braveheart and Zizi are doing well, then I’m at peace with my horse life.
Even if I can’t always ride.
With love,
Camilla 💖

Yesterday, I had a round of sessions with some inc Yesterday, I had a round of sessions with some incredible Icelandic horses...
Each one met me with something different – and each one opened up in their own time.
There were moments of deep release, softness, and clarity.
It’s always humbling to witness how clearly horses show us what they need – when we really listen.
These weren’t just treatments – they were quiet conversations.
And the kind that stay with you. 🐎✨

💛 Sunday reflections 💛 The other day, I w 💛 Sunday reflections 💛
The other day, I was talking to a client after giving her horse a bodywork session. We ended up chatting about our horses' behavior – both she and I have draft horses – and we recognized many of the same patterns and experiences.
At one point, she said something along the lines of:"Once you learn to listen to them, give them a voice, and not just 'direct' them, you get so much more back."
And that sentence hit home. Because that’s exactly what I’ve experienced too. I see it with many different horses, but especially with draft horses. It applies both in training and during bodywork sessions. When we make space for their voice and invite them into the conversation, something truly good happens.
It’s not about letting the horse take over – of course, sometimes we need to set a gentle boundary. But we owe it to them to listen. And when we can, we should accept their suggestions. That’s where trust grows. That’s where true partnership begins.
I’m just so deeply grateful for all the small partnerships I get to be part of. I often drive home from my bodywork visits with a joyful feeling – because I’ve felt how much the horses allow me to access in our ‘conversations.’

Have a lovely Sunday.

With love,
Camilla 💖
